What is one thing that has to be here in order to have BMX alive with in the world? BMX companies! Brian Castillo is a old school pro that has been in the game for a long time now. Over the years he’s been in companies such as Volume Bikes, and Demolition. He has had the chance to ride with many riders from new to old and has built memories and friendships that will last a life time all coming from sessions on a 20 inch BMX bike. I chose Brian for an interview because it shows the business side of things such as how they look towards sponsoring riders. I didn’t have any luck with getting new projects out of him, but Demolition dropped their “Demolition Days.” Which is the team shredding Pat Casey’s dirt jumps and backyard ramp and the FOD dirt trails. Seriously recommend the watch!

When did you start getting into BMX? Any memorable memories?  Got seriously into BMX in middle school.  An older pro in my area had a halfpipe and thought it looked cool and started to buy BMX mags and got more and more into it from there.

There’s a lot of good memories, but just riding with my group of friends at the jumps and having a great time with each other is what I remember most.

When did you want to get into the business side of BMX? Around 20 years old, I got a job as brand manager at Primo and went from there.  That was definitely the catalyst for starting my own business’.

As the owner of Demolition what major roles to do take on in the company? I have my hands in pretty much everything!  I’m involved in every aspect but my main role here marketing and product development.

What do you look for in the riders that you choose to sponsor? We obviously look at how good that rider is but what is starting to trump everything else is their attitude and if they fit our brand image. Our riders definitely have a say in who gets on too, it usually starts with them putting a good word in.

Are there any new projects that have dropped or ideas to for a new projects? Always have new projects and colors in the works we’re excited about but have to keep them low key till they get ready to drop.

Who are some of your favorite riders? Such as in new riders to the scene, and overall through the years you have been in the BMX community.

A lot of riders have come through the building and made timeless memories with the us.  I honestly don’t have a favorite but seeing guys pushing the limits like Broc Raiford and Dennis Enarson get me stoked as a fellow rider.
