How long have you been riding for? 20 years
How did you get into BMX? Every kid has a bmx bike. I watched the movie RAD and wanted to be like Crue!
What is your biggest accomplishment in BMX? Getting back on my bike after my first bad crash. And maybe an Xgames Bronze
When did you start “Ben’s Backyard?” Why? 2004 in Los Angeles. It was a backyard with ramps that Steve McCloud had started. Then I took it over for a year. Then Rick Thorne saved it when the property went for sale. But I ended up moving to Santa Ana and starting my current yard in 2007. I’ve always liked having my own private BMX compound.
What was the goal of building the ramps? Fun. I enjoy building them and I enjoy riding them. Its all for a good time!
How do you think it came to be so known? Social media. And it had a few nice spreads in the print magazines. But there was so much hype from a few Playboy photo shoots I had here. Everyone thought that beautiful women flock to this place. Which is true. LOL

What are some of the events you threw there? Any stories from it? Nike 6.0 Banksgiving was the first big one I had. But there were many awesome parties before that. My clothing sponsor at the time “E-21” would buy us kegs of beer. If you brought over a couch cushion for the foam pit then you would get a cup for the keg!
Why was the ramps taken down? Property appraisal.
Why have you decided to build new ramps? Thats always been the plan. I’ve just been a little busy doing other projects.
Where can we donate money for the ramps? https://www.gofundme.co
If we donate money, could we suggest ideas for the layout? Yes of course. Even better if you donate enough to build your idea.
Overall what is your goal with the new ramps? Just trying to have fun and keep the backyard ramp scene alive.
Any extra words you would like to say? Always ride your bike and you will always have happiness.
